About the Artist Ephraim Heller began photographing nature and his family as a 10-year-old child in rural Massachusetts, where he ran barefoot in the forest and swam in ponds with turtles and snakes. Heller was fascinated by old mechanical cameras, which he took apart but could never reassemble. One day, Heller attempted underwater photography in a backyard pond by putting his camera in a plastic bag. It didn’t end well.
