Park City Museum and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History will host a lecture called *Showcasing Park City’s Silver Mining Past with the Historic Mine Route Project* given by Wayne McKay on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 5-6 p.m. held at the Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive. The Historic Mine Route (HMR) project creates a self-guided, audio-assisted tour of over 20 historic mine sites in the mountains surrounding Park City. The HMR brings together outdoor recreation, historic preservation, storytelling, and sustainable tourism into one experience that is uniquely Park City. Visitors are not just hiking; they are walking through the mining history that shaped this community. The presentation will focus on how Park City is attracting heritage tourism to reclaimed abandoned silver mine sites after they have been made safe for the public to visit. Wayne McKay has a BSc and MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. He was employed by Chevron and Cenovus Energy in multiple domestic and international locations. He moved to Park City in 2019 and is enjoying retirement, volunteering for the Park City Historical Society & Museum, as well as working part-time as a ski instructor at Park City Mountain Resort. He has enjoyed his role as a volunteer in Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History, helping to make Park City's mining history stories more available and interesting to locals and visitors....
