William Shakespeare’s influence extends far beyond the stage: over 400 years after his death, his plays continue to be read and performed around the world, and adaptations of his work in film, television, musical theater, and more abound. The Bard also leaves a deep legacy in the field of opera, inspiring favorites in the operatic canon by composers like Verdi, Berlioz, Purcell, Barber – and Gounod. Ahead of Park City Opera’s production of Gounod’s *Roméo et Juliette*, join us to explore Shakespeare’s enduring legacy in opera, the history of Shakespeare performance in Utah, and the story behind Gounod’s masterpiece.
